Named Location

access

Conditional Access feature that defines trusted or untrusted network locations based on IP addresses or countries.

What is Named Location?

Named locations enable location-based access policies. IP-based named locations define trusted corporate networks where reduced security friction might be acceptable. Country-based locations can block access from high-risk geographies. Named locations are building blocks for Conditional Access policies that apply different controls based on where users are connecting from.

In Microsoft 365

Azure AD named locations can be IP ranges (corporate offices, VPN exit points) or countries/regions. They can be marked as "trusted" to signal the corporate network. GPS-based locations are available with Compliant Network Check for stricter verification.

Examples

  • 1Corporate headquarters IP range marked as trusted
  • 2Country-based location for sanctioned nations (blocked)
  • 3VPN concentrator IPs for remote worker access
